This past July, John celebrated 10 years with the department.
John joined the department at a time when he was ready to retire from retail pharmacy and wanted to do something useful and meaningful in our community. He had time, energy and skills that he wanted to use and not ‘quit’ on life and be idle! So, he reached out to CCFR. He remembered how his mother had fallen out of bed at 2:00 a.m. and they needed help to get her back in and CCFR personnel came! He wanted to give back as he had already received.
John stated, “CCFR needs a variety of skills (i.e. clerical, computer, electrical, welding, vehicle maintenance, construction, to name a few) as well as firefighters and medical responders. You don’t have to be young and strong to contribute. So much is done as a team effort … like the man we saved after his tractor ran over him … or the woman who fell on scissors nicking her artery and we supplied an Israeli bandage … and we made the difference!”
John generally donates about 10 hours a week to the Fire Department. In his spare time, he is an outdoor kind of guy: gardening, camping, hiking, bicycle riding, hunting, fishing, and making trout flies.
When asked what he would generally like the community to think about, he said, “PLEASE, everyone, make sure you have house numbers posted and readable so we can find you more quickly in an emergency!” If you are in need of one, ask your local Fire Department.
Thank you, John, for all you have done and continue to do in our community. |
