By Lieutenant James Townsend
September 5, 2024

Clay County Fire and Rescue had a busy afternoon today starting with a report of a residential structure fire in the Greasy Creek Rd area of Brasstown. Fire personnel responded to the call for service with multiple apparatus along with Clay County EMS.

The fire started in a mobile camper which was stationary in the residential driveway. There was some fire spread to the residence itself causing damage to the exterior of the residence. Firefighters were able to quickly suppress the fire on the exterior of the residence which limited the damage to that exposure, however, the camper was a total loss.

“The fire appeared to have started in the electrical area of the dashboard of the camper.” Said Fire Chief Brian Anderson. “The proximity of the camper to the residence itself was our primary concern as we arrived on scene and saw the initial extension into the residence. Firefighters were able to get that fire knocked down quickly with little damage to the interior.”

“The fire was followed by a string of multiple calls for service throughout the county which were handled well by all public safety agencies in Clay County. Sometimes things come in waves and sometimes we can go a whole day without a single CFS, just the way things go.” - Chief Anderson
